Home Grown
It takes a community to raise a child* … and we need our children to sustain rural communities into the future.
(*adaption of an African proverb)
Rural Australia is full of incredible professionals—most of whom grew up in small communities themselves. Being raised rural is the strongest predictor of returning to work rural. While current policies often focus on attracting outside talent to fill gaps short-term, Home Grown is about nurturing our own future professionals—starting with the kids in our schools today. Our local schools are doing amazing work, and with the right support, our children can access the best education and dream big. I believe in their potential and in the power of a community that lifts them. This project will help identify skills shortages shire by shire, inspire young people to explore those careers, and build clear, sustainable pathways to train and return home—grounded in what the evidence shows actually works.
